Flashback Friday: Marlene Dietrich

Marlene Dietrich in Seven Sinners, 1940

I Recently Ran Across This Lovely Style Icon While Researching Designers Of The 1930s For A Class Project, And I Fell In Love. Her Name Is Marlene Dietrich. Marlene Dietrich Was A Famous Actress In Hollywood During The 1930-40s. Marlene's Style Stood Out From Others Because She Often Wore Tuxedos Off Screen, And Three Piece Suits. She Was Known For Her Androgynous Style, That Still Was Very Appealing On Her. Dietrich Did Still Wear Her Dresses, Fur, And The Expected Attire For The "Old Hollywood Glamour" Era. The Actresses During That Time Often Were Clients Of Couturiers, And Muses For Designers. Marlene Wore Designs By Christian Dior, Elsa Schiaparelli, Travis Banton, And More.

Something Interesting I Found Was That She Performed The First Homosexual Kiss In Cinema History In The Film Morocco From 1930. She Was Dressed As A Man For That Scene. That Made Me Think About Madonna Kissing Britney Spears At The VMAs In 2003, And Then Madonna Wearing A Top Hat And Suit Earlier This Year, Giving Off A Dietrich Look. Not Bad At All Madonna.

"I dress for the image. Not for myself, not for the public, not for fashion, not for men." - Marlene Dietrich

Camel Calls For Classics.

So, Recently Ive Noticed A lot Of Khaki/Camel Colors Coats Being Work. Usually If Its Not Black, Its Khaki/Camel. And Im Loving It. Alright Now First Lets Have A Little Lesson In Color And Fashion. So A lot Of The Coats Ive Noticed Are Camel Colored. This Color Is Also Very Popular For A Classic Coat, Which Is Referred To As The "Polo Coat". From The 1920s The Coat Was Worn By Men And In This Specific Color Because It Was Made Out Of Camel Hair. It Was A Wrap Style Coat Featuring A Belt But Then Soon Changed To Having Buttons. Heres An Article About The "Polo Coat" From Gentlemens Gazette If You'd Like To Read More Into It. Now, Of Course Women Adapted This Style Of Coat, But Not Too Many Changes To It. Fast Forward To 1981, Max Mara Released Its Most Known Item, Style #101801 Is All Its Know As, But We Can Call It The "Camel Coat". Max Mara Creates Such Classic Coats They're Known For Them (Below, Kim K. A Coat From Max Mara). And For The Lesson In Color, Below I Found What "Khaki" Color Is, And What "Camel" Color Is. Khaki Is Brighter Than Camel. Also In Fashion When You Search "Khaki" Whatever, You'll Find A Dark Green Color ("Army Green"). Thats Because It Is A Shade (Khaki + Black) Of Khaki. The Color Range Is From Beige To Brown.Alright So Now That We Have Some History And A Lesson, Lets Get Into This Camel Coat Trend. It Really Came Back During 2010, But I Now See A lot Of Bloggers Wearing It This Winter.

Clashes In Cuba: Clover Canyon 2014 Resort S/S

Roses, Cigars And Eccentrics, Oh My. This Clover Canyon Collection For Next Spring/Summer Is One To Gawk At. These Details Are Beyond Realistic. Designer Roze Nichols Is The Head Behind This Collection With A Group Of People On The Project With Her. Every Collection Shes Inspired By A Place And/Or Time, Her And Her Team Then Put Prints, Objects And All Together to Bring That Place, To Life And To Fashion. If You Didnt Guess, Which Surprising I Did Before I Even Looked Up More Info On This Collection, The Inspiration Is Cuba.
The First Ensemble To The Left, A Bomber Jacket And Cropped Jogger Pant, Has About 6 Different Patterns To It, Including Color Block And Aztec Print (Shown In The Detail Circles). To The Right, A Fitted To Flare  Dress. The Center Palm Tree Graphic Is Surrounded By Peruvian And Chocolate Brown Patterns That Gives An Earthy Feel.
Can We Just Applaud The Look To The Right? This Is the Look That Made Me HAVE To Write About This Collection. The Cigars (Top Detail Circle) Make You Look Twice And Definitely Says Cuba. Also Some Hawaiian Floral Print, And Checkerboard Are In The Two Pieces, Almost Giving A Nineties Feel. The Tropical Flowers Collaged Over Prints Are Refreshing, Making Me Want Spring Back As They Leave.

On Clover Canyon's Blog There Was An Image For Inspiration Of The Collection, Which Was Printed On A Shirt for this Collection (Look At The 4th Look Above).

Fur In Fashion Can Be Dated All The Way Back To The 1400s But Wearing Fur Has Been Around Before We Considered It "Fashion". In History One Of The Things Natives Of America Would Trade With Europe Was Fur (The Fur Trade). Also We Know When Tribes Would Hunt And Kill Animals, They'd Wear Their Fur For Warmth. Fast Forwarding To Today Fur Has Became Iconic For The Colder Seasons In Fashion. Since The 1900s It Was A Fashion Statement To Wear Fur, And A Thing For The Wealthy. Monkey, Raccoon, And Fox Fur Were Made Into Coats, Stoles, And Hats. Today Real Fur Clothing Is Not As Popular As It Was, But Faux Fur Is Still Here. Appearing Every Year In Fashion Week Atleast Once. Bold Blue, Or Icy Ivory, Faux Fur Can Be Made Into Any Color. As Fun As Fur Sounds Today It Is Controversial In The Fashion Industry, And As We Know PETA Always Will Have A Take On It. I Love The Way Fur Looks, And Ill Be Honest Fake Fur Appeals More to Me Than Real. Just Decided To Share My Love For Faux Fur Here. Also I Found A Blog Dedicated To Fur, Fur Insider, Which I Found Helpful, And Full Of Love.
